YOU: An Owner's Manual is written for the man or woman who wants to know how to live a healthy life and keep their body in great condition. After all, it's the only one we've got!!

The cover* is based on the Vitruvian Man, a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci around 1490. The drawing, which is in pen and ink on paper, depicts a man in two superimposed positions with his arms and legs apart and inscribed in a circle and square. The drawing and text are sometimes called the Canon of Proportions or, less often, Proportions of Man. It is kept in the Gabinetto dei disegni e stampe of the Gallerie dell'Accademia, in Venice, Italy, under reference 228. Like most works on paper, it is displayed to the public only occasionally.

The drawing is based on the correlations of ideal human proportions with geometry described by the ancient Roman architect Vitruvius in Book III of his treatise De Architectura. Vitruvius described the human figure as being the principal source of proportion among the Classical orders of architecture. Vitruvius determined that the ideal body should be eight heads high. Leonardo's drawing is traditionally named in honor of the architect.

You - An Owner's Manual

Your Body - How It Works and How to Care For It.

The human being is one of the few things in life that does not come with a user manual and we are largely left to our own devices in as far as finding out what it comprises, how it operates, what it runs best on, how it should be treated, what its ideal operating ranges are and so forth.

This book is an attempt to rectify this situation by collecting together in one place pertinent knowledge that has been amassed over the ages and putting it in simple terms that everyone can understand.

The aim is to provide a basic knowledge of the body and its workings and what we should do to keep it in good working order both mentally and physically.

This book does not purport to be a medical journal and it is stressed that any doubts as to health matters should always be addressed with the relevant medical practitioners.
